1. Steer clear from water. The first thing to note is that water could destroy the delicate feathers. As such, you need to take steps to ensure that they are kept away from any kind moisture. Granted, they will dry out eventually but the soggy feathers will not have the same appearance after that. They could be stuck together or become brittle and this will take away from their aesthetic appeal.

2. Dry them properly. In the event that your feather hair extensions unfortunately come into contact with water, you need to dry them out appropriately and as soon as possible. One of the ways that you can do this is by using a hair dryer. Take note, heat could also damage the delicate plumes used in the feather hair extensions. Thus, when using a hair dryer to get rid of the moisture, only do so when it is at its lowest heat setting. Lay the feather extensions on a flat surface when blow-drying them then leave them in that position to completely dry out.

3. Straighten out the feathers carefully. In some instances, you may find that the feathers will be tangled. This could be either due to wind, when trying to take them off after wearing them all day and so on. A common mistake that people make is trying to detangle them without patience. This increases the chances of you getting them tangled further or worse, breaking the feathers. When detangling the feathers, it is advisable to use a soft brush. This will gently ease out the mangled feathers.

4. Store the feather hair extensions separately. When it comes to jewelry, most people will stash all their pieces in one box. Although this will work fine with items made from metal, it is not advisable when it comes to feather items. The feathers can be tangled with the other pieces and this will ruin their appearance. Instead, hang your feather extensions separately and individually.
