Folding Doors Guide To Different Types

Submitted by: John Schofield

Folding doors are those doors that have to be folded to open them. These are different from the traditional doors that require swinging to open them up. Because of this folding mechanism, these are the ideal doors to be installed in rooms without enough space to spare for a swinging door. They are also the go-to doors for areas wherein the space near the door must be used. Bi folding doors are the most common form of these doors though you can also find accordion doors. These are doors which are composed of several panels that can be folded. There are several types of folding doors that you need to be introduced to.

Bi Folding Doors

These are the most popular types of folding doors that are often used in homes. They can be installed in areas that can no longer accommodate regular doors, those that swing to open. This is why bi folding doors are often used in closets, laundry rooms, pantries and even in big rooms that need to be separated into two or more rooms. They do not only work as doors for privacy but also as divisions that serve as walls between certain areas in the house.

Bi folding doors are made of two narrow panels that are held together by a hinge at the middle. These operate after folding to open and close onto a track. If you want to open these doors, you just need to slide them along the track and fold the panels to one side. This can result to a big area being opened without any other boundaries. You may also explore the possibility of installing two bi folding doors side by side. The good thing is that both doors can use a single track. You can slide each door to different sides of the opening. This is how you can easily use these doors.

Accordion Doors

These are doors with more than two panels which can be folded back against each other. They work just like bi folding doors. The only difference is that they are made of several panels which can be kept to one side just like how you fold an accordion. The good thing is that they are more of a space saver than bi folding doors. They only have thin materials used in their panels to make them more effective than other doors. They can be kept on the track or rolled to one side.

Acoustic Folding Doors

Their biggest feature is that they can be used to block the noise from outside the area. These are often used in churches, buildings and other structures that need to be soundproof. However, they are not absolutely soundproofed, especially those doors with really thin materials.

Glass Folding Doors

These are similar to the regular French doors but with panels that are made of glass. The best thing about them is that even if they are not kept to one side, you can still have a great view of whatever is on the other side of the door. If you decide to roll them over to open them, you can still save space.

Bi Folding Door Bookcases

These are creative doors that look like any regular bookcase. However, they can be opened up to reveal the area inside.
