There is always somewhere interesting to visit in and around the Austin area. If you are looking for a day trip somewhere nearby to entertain your family, then Austin and the surrounding area is the place to be!

Inner Space Caverns

Just up the road in Georgetown, is the Inner Space Caverns. It is located just off of interstate 35. It was discovered in 1963 by the Texas Highway Department while they were drilling through 40 feet of solid limestone. The cave had been hidden for over 10,000 years.

Tours are available for groups of you can even have a private tour. There is even a “Off the trail” tour for the really adventurous spelunkers. Visitors can see the beautiful formations that are hidden deep underground. The cave is at a comfortable 72 degrees year round with a relative humidity of 98%.

The caverns also have a gift shop and a snack and beverage center. When you’ve finished visiting the cavern, you can pan for gems and minerals at the Inner Space Mine. There is a playscape available for the kiddos and a picnic area that is surrounded by Oak trees. What a wonderful place to visit.

Wonder World Park

Just down the road in San Marcos, is the Wonder World Park. The park is located at 1000 Prospect Street. The park has many attractions that every one will enjoy. The park is located on the Balcones Fault line, which includes a cave that was formed by an earthquake.

After you tour the cave, how about a visit on the Tejas Observation Tower? The tower goes 190 feet above the ground. From the tower you can see the beautiful hill country, and see the breaking-off points that reveal the fault lines.

You can take a ride on the Express Train to the Texas Wildlife Petting Park and travel through a cascading waterfall on the way to Mystery Mountain.

On the way, meet beautiful deer and other little critters that wait for the train! Once you arrive at the petting zoo, you can pet and feed the animals. It is a wonderful experience for the entire family.

When you are done with the petting zoo, why not take a trip to the crazy Anti-Gravity House? It is an odd experience and one you will most likely not forget, especially when you see water run up hill.
